Respect yourself …

Day 513.

If you don’t respect yourself
Ain’t nobody gonna give a good cahoot, na na na na
Respect yourself, respect yourself”
-The Staple Singers

Choose drinking over sobriety. Choose comfortably numb over fully alert. It’s disrespecting yourself if you do. I’ve come to believe that absolutely. As much as I’d sometimes (even now) give a King’s ransom to have a glass of Pinot Grenache, I proactively choose alertness, awareness, and being in my full discomfort. No longer can I try to escape myself.

Respect yourself! Give a good cahoot about yourself!

The image is Walden Pond, OMG! Author Henry David Thoreau, as well as his sponsor Ralph Waldo Emerson, introduced concepts of transcendentalism, naturalism, self-reliance to me — waaaaaaaay back in High School. They were instrumental in kicking off of a life-long journey of self-discovery and thirst for knowledge.
