“People used to always say to me that they wanted to write a play, they wanted to write a movie, they wanted to write a novel. I’d say the couple of people who actually did something – actually started writing, they’re 80% of the way to having something happen.”
Let me apply this to drinking. I’ve talked about not drinking, I’ve written about not drinking in my journals – and I’ve promised myself to not drink many many times – on auto-repeat.
And then I finally did it. Stopped drinking.
I’m now not drinking. I’m 80% of the way there by just choosing not to drink, and keeping to that.
Sure there’s the 20% to deal with: all the reasons I drink, the emotions I suppressed, the baggage I lugged around – and the pull of a drink beckoning me to quench my thirst that happens along the way in sobriety.
But yes, I’d say overall – not drinking is a big part of being sober 🙂
