Wherever you go, there you are

Day 22.

Feeling good today.

I’d like to share a dynamic, innovative, charming and wise man with you. Jon Kabat Zinn.  And the idea of mindfulness, based on many of the teachings and values of buddhism.

Is he on your radar? If you are on the path of recovery he should be. Jon has been a key individual who brought mindfulness into the mainstream. Mindfulness and meditation were in the wilderness of alternative hippy-thinking. It is moving front and center now — as it has proven over and over to improve health, ease mental suffering, and bring peace and acceptance (key ingredient) to our stressed out selves.

Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment, which can be developed through the practice of meditation and other training.

Mindfulness and meditation now has an army of believers, practioners and teachers around this healing concept.

It is recognised by mainstream medicine. It is covered by some health insurance providers.

Wherever you go, there you are.

If you take this classic buddhist thought — and ponder it, you may see in full clarity what a crutch alcohol is.

No matter how you try to to numb yourself and get away from problems by self-medicating, you are there. You can not escape you. You can not run away from your feelings, because they are you.

Here’s a very favorite short clip of Jon and Oprah, introducing you to the work.
